Practice Schedule

Use a variety of fast moving drills and a variety of equipment to keep the teaching and learning aspects of the practice at an intense, fluid, and fun level. The level of movement and concentration that is generated in the drills during practice will maximize the skill level the players are capable of on the baseball field.

Warm up and Stretching
It is very important to loosen up, stretch, and strengthen the muscle system.

Base Running
• Run through first

• Running on a pitcher who comes set and who never throws over

• Running on a pitcher who only throws over once. Go on first movement.

Playing Catch
This is a time to practice and strengthen the arm. Play catch together to insure warm up is being done correctly. This allows the coach to manage the pace and teach proper procedures.

Infield EDDs (Every Day Drills)
• All: Practice fielding ground balls right, left, center, forward, and back.
• 1st Base: Playing the short hop, Pivots to second base.
• 2nd Base: Double play pivots and foot work
• SS: Double play pivots and footwork
• 3rd Base: Double play pivots

Pitching EDDs (Every Day Drills)
• Pitchers covering first
• Pitcher and catcher communicating on past balls
• Pitchers backing up
• Pitchers holding runners on base
• Pitcher bunt coverages
• Pitchers stepping off
• Towel drills

Catching EDDs (Every Day Drills)
• Framing
• Steals
• Blocking

Outfield EDDs (Every Day Drills)
The primary focus of the outfielder is to position the body to attack through the ball towards the infield.

Bunt Coverages

Pre Game
01. Left to third to catcher. Center to second to first shagging. Right to second to third to catcher.
02. Left to second. Center to third. Right to third with second cutting.
03. Left, right, and center go home with ball and follow it in.
04. After right finishes, cut second to third to catcher to third to short to second to first. Two times.
05. Two ground balls to each position coming home.
06. Round off a slow roller and the grass and go to first.
07. First receives throw from catcher. Fake the bunt.
08. One and cover. Third goes to the mound and throws to the catcher.
09. Double plays.
10. Deep ground ball. Throw to first. Round off a second ground ball and bring it home.
11. Pop up to catcher.

Drills: Game Logistics / Shotgun. Work up to each player reaching all nine positions.

Hitting
Apply your drills to bunting and hitting for particular situations. During a hitters live practice at bat. Utilize members of the group as base runners. The live at bat is to test what was practiced in the hitting stations. Utilize small ball drills as competition such as bunting for accuracy.

Hitting Stations: Divide your players by infield, outfield, pitchers, and catchers when possible. Allows players to practice when in slots 1 and 2 as well as to be pulled out for additional training.

Bunting
Drop the back leg and square the shoulders. Keep the barrel of the bat slightly above the hands. Bend knees for the low pitch. Catch the ball with bat. Preset the correct bat angle. Bunt the top of the ball so runner gets a good read.
